Situated within the borough of  South Ribble, approximately six miles south of the city of Preston. Leyland has a population of  37,000.

Leyland is most famous for the bus and truck manufacturer Leyland Motors.  The truck part of the business still operates today as Leyland Trucks.  Other local businesses are Enterprise PLC, Leyland Print. Leyland is home to C&W Berry (Berry’s) as it is known locally, a large Building Merchants. The main yard features a row of unused houses named after local man Colin whittle (Colin whittle row).  There is plenty of places to shop for groceries with a large Tesco, Morrisons, Asda, B&M, Poundstretcher.  On the high street, you can find butchers, cards shops, banks, carpet stores, clothes shops, hairdressers and pharmacies and estate agents.

There is also a very popular indoor market situated right in the centre of town. There are plenty of activities for families, with a community theatre, Dance Schools, martial arts theatres and gyms.  Worden Park is perfect for family picnics, evening strolls and summer picnics.  In the summer volunteers run the miniature steam railway which both children and adults can take a ride on.  There is a large children's play area along with a maze.

The local train station is ideal for commuting to Liverpool Lime Street, Manchester, Preston and Blackpool.  Bus routes connect to Chorley and Preston.

High schools include Balshaws CE High Schools, St Mary's Catholic High School, Worden Sports College and Wellfield High School.

What do you really love about Leyland?

I love the fact that although I have lived here all my life when I go away on holiday abroad and come back, I still feel glad to be back in my home town.

It is not too big and a lovely Christmassy feel from the beginning of December onwards.

What are your favourite streets and why?

Fox Lane and a lovely walk down to Worden Park.

What is your favourite pub or restaurant and why?

Antonello's on Hough Lane because it is not too big upstairs and the food is good.

My favourite pub is the Eagle and the atmosphere is welcoming.

Where is the best place to go for a walk?

Cuerden Valley and we often go for lovely walks there.

Do you have a favourite shop?

Not really, but the Pine Shop on Hough Lane is nice for a browse, as is Thorntons as it has a lovely gift side as well as chocolates!   Also, Woman is a nice boutique for both men and Grandad Jim’s sweetshop is a must for people who like sweets buying from an ‘Olde Worlde’ shop.

Why should someone move to Leyland?

There are good motorway links to the M6, M55, M65 and enjoy.
