Children and their families were asked to collect as much plastic as\nthey could from around the home. Then, with all the plastic collected, the\nchildren were tasked with creating a plastic house that was either the biggest\nhouse or the most creative, to be crowned the winner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>St Gregory\u2019s Catholic Primary School\u2019s winning creation was titled the\n\u2018Tipi House on St Gregory\u2019s Hill\u2019. The plastic Tipi measured 3 metres high and\n7 metres in diameter and will fit 40 children underneath it. St Gregory\u2019s Year\n5 class and the school\u2019s Eco Council collected all the plastic before\nconstructing their impressive Tipi, that was extremely tall and creative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Home Truths Director, John Ascroft, said: \u201cWe wanted to launch a\ncampaign with our local primary schools to help raise awareness for the global\nplastics crisis that we are all facing. At the same time, we wanted to put the\nchildren\u2019s imagination to the test to see what they could create.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSt Gregory\u2019s winning creation was a clear winner for us. It is not only\nimpressive in size, but it is creative and really is a house with a difference.\nThe judges felt that the fact that 40 children could fit inside the creation\nand that the Tipi will remain in place for years to come, to continually raise\nawareness for the plastics crisis, made St Gregory\u2019s the worthy winners of the\nHome Truths Plastic House Competition 2019.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lennon McDonagh, aged 9, from the St Gregory\u2019s Eco Council said:\n&#8220;It was a tough challenge and we used over 150 bottles! We are very proud\nto have won a trophy and stop\nplastic pollution.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Miss Lewis, St Gregory\u2019s Year 5 Class Teacher and Eco Council\nLeader, said: &#8220;The Eco Council and Year 5 took ownership of the project\nand sorted all the bottles before creating the Tipi.\nStand 7m diameter, our permanent, creative structure can fit\n40 children under it, which is amazing!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis was a great competition, run by Home Truths, as it encouraged our\npupils&#8217; interest and responsibility for our world.
